Get your finest hat dusted off and practice ordering a Mint Julep. It’s Kentucky Derby Time! Instead of the usual rundown of the five favorite horses in the race, we used our creative license to try our online logo maker to design logos for some of the most-talked-about horses of the season.
1. American Pharoah
This gorgeous horse is increasingly becoming the favorite heading into the race, with updated odds of 2/1, and recent comparisons to NBA great Michael Jordan because of how airbound he is as he runs. The only horse mentioned in the same sentence as American Pharaoh recently has been Dortmund. The logo we designed is regal and patriotic, with a clear nod to the ancient inspiration for the name.
2. Itsaknockout
The Kentucky Derby is not the only sports event happening the first weekend in May and Starlight Racing is getting paid an undisclosed amount to pump up enthusiasm for the big boxing match between Mayweather and Pacquiao. Itsaknockout has a blanket that says “Mayweather” in orange on one side, and “Pacquiao” in yellow on the other side. Jockey Luis Saez will wear pants that are split the same way. This logo design is all about the boxing motif, because whether this horse wins the race, he has already been a marketing winner.
3. Firing Line
Owned by Arnold Zetcher, former CEO of Talbots, Firing Line had a very impressive race on the March 22 at the Sunland Derby. He has two wins and three seconds, all to very strong horses, at four different tracks, making Firing Line an exciting and consistently-performing new star. With odds of 16/1, we see this horse potentially shooting straight through the crowd of horses across the finish line, to take the crown.
4. Frosted
This striking gray horse comes from blue blood and was the winner of the Wood Memorial. He has been called out as the most transformed of any Derby horse this year. With two career wins from seven starts, and updated 16/1 odds, this horse could continue his transformation and surprise us all at Churchill Downs. The sports logo plays off the unique name and look of this fast and fit beauty.
5. International Star
This horse is clearly a star, being the only Kentucky Derby prospect to have won three qualifying races in 2015. So why aren’t more people talking about International Star? The most recent odds of 18/1 seem to downplay the potential of this progeny of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus. We designed a bold logo, with a literal interpretation of the grand-swooping name, to get the world’s attention.
Here’s to a great Derby Weekend!
